Konica Minolta held “Green Farming Day” of “Emerald Learning Program 2016” series on March 11, 2017. Konica Minolta’s volunteer team together with the students from Precious Blood Primary School (Wah Fu Estate) visited efarm at Hok Tau Fanling, and learnt about the natural world through experience.

Nowadays, students tend to spend their time on homework and extracurricular activities. They seldom visit country parks and generally know little about local agriculture. This activity aroused participants’ interest towards environment through farming experience, with the ultimate aim of appreciating our nature and understanding the importance of conservation. The farm uses worms, fish and vegetable to build an aquaponic system which recycles the food waste to become nutrient in food chain. It is a good education tool for demonstrating how the food chain works.

Apart from the knowledge of organic farming, hydroponics and aquaponic system, participants could also experience fun farming with our volunteers, such as weeding and picking. Participants were taught various herbs and use organic herbs for making tasty bread. Besides, participants made their own soaps with natural materials and herbs as aromatizer. Participants shared the inspiration they got via the program, hoping that they can put what they learnt into practice as well as extending to local community.

To conserve our natural scenery for next generations, we should treasure natural resources and adopt a green lifestyle. Konica Minolta will continue to execute our spirit of “Green at Heart” by organizing more educational activities which can promote sustainable development towards young people and our community.
